NTSE

What is NTSE?
National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) is a national-level scholarship program in India to identify and recognize students with high intellect and academic talent.

  • 5,00,000 students appear for this scholarship exam every year.
  • Only 1000 scholarships are awarded, out of which 775 are unreserved.
  • The scholarships are awarded to candidates for pursuing courses in sciences and social sciences up to doctoral level and professional courses up to second-degree level.
  • Scholarship of Rs. 1250 per month is awarded for class XI to XII.
  • Scholarship of Rs. 2000 per month is awarded for Undergraduates and Postgraduates.
  • The scholarship amount is fixed in accordance with the UGC norms for Ph.D.

There is a two-stage selection process for the award of scholarship. For Stage – I, the selection will be done by States/UTs through the written examination. Each State/Union Territory has been allotted a quota to recommend a specific number of candidates for the Stage – II examination, the details of which are available on the NCERT website (www.ncert.nic.in). Students who qualify for Stage – I will be eligible to appear for the Stage-II examination conducted by NCERT.

Quota for State/UT will be computed proportionally on the basis of student’s enrollment in Class IX and X. The scholarships under the present scheme are awarded to the candidates for pursuing courses in sciences and social sciences up to doctoral level and in professional courses like medicine and engineering up to second-degree level subject to the fulfillment of the conditions.

IMO

What is IMO?
International Mathematics Olympiad, conducted by the renowned Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF), is a prestigious math competition that challenges students’ mathematical knowledge and skills. This Olympiad offers students the opportunity to assess their mathematical aptitude and problem-solving abilities at different levels, including school, local, zonal, and global.

Individual registration for the SOF IMO exam is open up to 15 days before the test date, allowing students to participate and showcase their math prowess.

NSO

What is NSO?
Conducted annually by Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF), NSO is a scholarship exam aimed at cultivating scientific reasoning and logical ability among students studying in class 1 to class 12, through a rigorous test. SOF NSO is conducted at Levels 1 and 2.

Level 1 is conducted for all students studying in classes 1 to 12 whereas those students who qualify level 1 exam (from class 3 -12), qualify to sit for the level 2 exam. Students can register for the same through their respective schools.

Around 10 lakh students register for NSO every year.

Only the schools which have registered with SOF can apply for NSO. Schools have to select a convenient date for the exam and register for it 30 days prior to the date of the exam. Students can register for the SOF NSO exam from their respective schools only. Individual registrations are not accepted. A minimum of 10 students needs to register from each school for SOF NSO.

Students can register for SOF NSO by filling the application form and submitting it along with the registration fee of Rs 125.

KVPY

What is KVPY?
KVPY full form is Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana. The KVPY is a national-level scholarship/fellowship program conducted by the Department of Science and Technology of the Government of India in order to promote and encourage research careers for highly talented students in basic science courses.

The objectives of the KVPY program are mentioned below:

  • Identify students who have good talent and aptitude which is suitable for research.
  • Encourage students so that they can understand their academic potential.
  • Develop students skills so that they take up their career in research and development.

This program aims to achieve the following:

  • Discover students with flair and propensity for research
  • Help students comprehend their perspective in their studies
  • Support their research endeavors in basic sciences
  • Guarantee augmentation of the best scientific minds for research and progress in the country

KVPY has the following streams:

  • SA: Students in Class 11 can appear in this stream
  • SX: Students in Class 12 can appear in this stream
  • SB: Students studying Science in the first year of graduation can appear for this stream
    Rewards

The students who qualify KVPY Exam are eligible for the fellowship. The students receive a fellowship from 1st year onwards of their graduation (science field).

The KVPY fellows receive ₹5,000 monthly fellowship from 1st to 3rd year of B.Sc/ B.Stat/ B.S./ B.Maths/ Integrated M.S./M.Sc and an annual contingency grant of ₹20,000. After three years the fellowship is enhanced to ₹7,000 per month during M.Sc/4th and 5th year of Integrated M.S./M.Sc and an annual contingency grant of ₹28,000.

KVPY Fellows are also eligible to get the DST Inspire Scholarship granted by Department of Science & Technology (DST) Government of India worth ₹80,000 annually.

JNVST

JNV Eligibility Criteria: 
Candidates should meet the eligibility criteria prescribed below to be eligible for JNV admission :

For class VI:

  • Candidates from the district where the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya has been opened are eligible to apply for admission. In the district where the JNV is opened and is bifurcated at a later date, the old boundaries of the district are considered for the purpose of eligibility for admission in the JNVs. This applies to cases where new Vidyalaya has not yet been started in the newly bifurcated district.
  • Candidates appearing for the selection test must be studying in Class V in a recognized school in the same district where he/she seeks admission.
  • A candidate seeking admission must be within the age group of 9 to 13 years. No relaxation for SC/ ST candidates.
  • A candidate claiming admission from rural quota must have studied and passed Classes III, IV and V from a school located in a rural area.
  • A candidate who has studied in a school located in an urban area even for a single day of a session in any of the Classes III, IV or V, will be considered as an urban area candidate.
  • A candidate who has not been promoted and admitted to Class V before 30th September is not eligible to apply.
  • No candidate is eligible to appear in the JNV Selection Test for a second time, under any circumstances.

For class IX:

  • Only those candidates who have studied in Class VIII in any recognized schools of the district where the JNV is functioning can seek admission in Class IX.
  • A candidate seeking admission must be between the age group 13 to 16 years on 1st May of the year of admission.

For class XI:

  • The candidate must have passed Class X from a recognized school of the district where the JNV is located during the academic session of the year of admission.
  • Students seeking admission in Class XI should be within the age limit of 14 to 18 years as on 1st July, of the year of admission.
  • The candidates must have reasonable competency in English and Hindi.
